Icon tutorial! ●●●

Yes people.. I shall be teaching you a tutorial on how to make a LOVELY icon using the dear Photoshop, my best friend. Here, I am using a picture of Mary-Kate and Ashley..We shall go from this:

depending on your own choice.First, open "New" and get your canvas thingy sized to 100 x 100.
Then, get your picture("open"), and crop it to 100 x 100 or if it won't fit to 100 x 100, something near that number, like 118 x100. Just make sure that it is between 100 - 125 though.
Now, drag the picture using the 'Layers' window(Find it on the top taskbar thingy titled 'Window') to the 100 x 100 blank canvas.
Now, it looks like an icon but, of low and amateur-ish quality so of course, we need to ENHANCE it!
Duplicate the layer by right-clicking on the picture we're working on. Oh yeah. Right-click on the NAME of the layer, say Layer 1 and there'll be options like 'Delete layer' and 'Duplicate Layer'. Pick the latter.
Now we have TWO LAYERS! SO, leave the first layer alone and desaturate the duplicated layer(will most probably be automatically labelled as 'Layer 1 copy') by pressing the shift key + Ctrl key + u key. Set this to 'Overlay'.
Duplicate that second layer( the one you just finished editting...DUH!) and set it to 'Hue'.
And you now have the FIRST result!
For the second result, you must get yourself a texture. Just go to deviantart and search for photoshop textures and find one that is compatible for your Photoshop Edition. Then, download the file and save it to anywhere you want. Locate the file, right-click on it and select ' Open with WinZIp' and when you're in WInzip, highlight all the textures and right-click on them. Now, copy and paste it to My Pictures.
Go back to Photoshop, (eh. tadi, jangan tutup masa nak cari textures =D) 'Open', and locate your textures. Look for the one that appeals to you most. Got it?
We're almost done. So now, you have to drag the texture ( as in Step 3) to the Canvas and set it to 'Screen' or 'Lighten' as it depends on the image quality/colour and change the opacity(You can find it in the layers window) to somewhere between 40-60. Make sure you click on the image of the texture first before doing this!
ANd we're done! If you like, you could add some brushes here and there and some text.
So, now go to "Save As", name your icon, and change the format to GIF format.
That's about it! Now you can go and gloat in Myspace, Y!M, MSN, and anywhere else your heart fancies.
Writer's note: This tutorial was created on account of stress, the hatred towards Lisan and my IE,and the newfound disgust towards the Pig and her cronies.
Icon-making is a very calming activity. For me.
p/s: the first result looks very elegant enough so you don't really have to use a texture if you don't wanna.
